Conversational Learning research moves to an exciting new phase of development in 2025, with a collaboration between 3 partners who are all leaders in their respective fields of expertise.
Oxford University Humanities today announced the pilot rollout of its Conversational Learning interactive educational app, in partnership with Charisma.ai and careers education provider MYPATH. This AI-powered English Language and Careers resource will be tested by students and teachers in UK classrooms throughout 2025.
Bringing together Oxford University’s teaching and research excellence, MYPATH’s careers education expertise, and Charisma.ai’s cutting-edge controllable conversational AI, the pilot represents a new frontier for digital learning resources. By leveraging the latest in interactive AI technology, Conversational Learning seeks to increase engagement and attainment in digitally under-resourced curriculum areas.
What is Conversational Learning?
The Conversational Learning resource immerses students in a remote working simulation, where they interact with virtual colleagues via video call, instant messaging and email, to complete English language writing tasks across a range of careers. How will persuasive writing skills come in handy in the charity sector? Why is ‘writing to advise’ important for a career in construction? Conversational Learning invites students to put curriculum skills into practice in real-life workplace scenarios, with instant AI-powered interaction and feedback.

The Conversational Learning resource simulates workplace scenarios and invites students to put their classroom writing skills into real-life practice.
Project Background
The resource is based on the findings of a 2-year research and consultation project run by TORCH (The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities). Working with teachers, educational publishers and other key stakeholders, the team at TORCH identified English Language as a curriculum area which is under-resourced not only digitally, but also in terms of compulsory careers provision. The interactive Conversational Learning app represents an innovative solution to this subject-specific problem, as well as modelling how AI could be used to increase curriculum engagement across the board. The pilot programme seeks to understand the benefits and challenges of bringing this technology into classrooms, with the aim of rolling out the resource more widely in 2026.

Students using the resource interact with virtual colleagues via email and instant messaging to complete writing tasks.
Created by Oxford University and powered by Charisma.ai, Conversational Learning will be piloted in UK secondary schools by MYPATH throughout 2025. The pilot will run from March to December 2025.
